AUTONOMOUS LEVEL – B2 – Independent Level

B2.1 (50 hours)

Course Description.

Topics – unit 1: “Scuola e dintorni” (School and surroundings); unit 2: “Cibo, che passione!” (Food, what a passion!); unit 3: “E tu, come fai a saperlo?” (And you, how do you know?).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, the use of auxiliary verbs in the past continuous, some pronominal verbs, review of past tenses of the indicative mode, indefinite pronouns, the future perfect, the passive with the particle si; adverbs allora and un giorno (then and someday), numerals used as nouns, the conditional mode for talking about unclear news, non perché (not because) + subjunctive, indirect interrogatives.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the subject of primary, secondary and tertiary education in Italy, study techniques, education abroad, eating habits, culinary habits, culinary techniques.
  2. talk about memories and habits related to the school dimension, one’s education, one’s relationship with food, one’s culinary skills, share recipes, describe a culinary procedure.
  3. express one’s opinions about education in a particular country, describe and contextualize the educational system in one’s country, criticize and support others’ opinions, agree or disagree with an opinion, describe one’s preferences and habits.
  4. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources devoted to information sharing, the world of news and its distribution, channels used for news sharing, statistical data, the role of social media, the world of work, changing professional figures, working conditions, and the labor market.

The course is dedicated to those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who could benefit from a review from this level.

B2.2 (50 hours)

Course Description.

Topics -; unit 4: “Il mondo del lavoro” (The world of work); unit 5: “Che emozione!” (How exciting!); unit 6: “I gusti son gusti!” (Tastes are tastes!); unit 7: “In giro per musei” (Touring the museums.).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, the use of the subjunctive in the relative and with the relative superlative, the gerund with causal and hypothetical value, the concordance of tenses with the conditional and subjunctive modes; adjectives that derive from nouns, the pronominal verb come out, some antonyms, different ways to render the hypothetical period, review of the hypothetical period of unreality (third type), as if and without that + subjunctive, the position of adjectives within the sentence, the use of the subjunctive in a negative main sentence, because + subjunctive, do + infinitive; review on the use of simple prepositions in and to, review of relative pronouns, the relative pronouns the which and the which.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to information sharing, the world of news and its distribution, channels used for news sharing, statistical data, the role of social media, the world of work, changing professional figures, working conditions, and the labor market.
  2. comment on and analyze statistical data, discuss events that occurred in past centuries, talk about one’s work, express oneself clearly and courteously within a formal context, talk about wishes and intentions, share information related to one’s profession.
  3. express one’s opinions about information distribution channels, the role of social media, discuss preferred means of updating, express one’s opinion about the world of work nowadays, professional figures and working conditions, contextualizing one’s opinions through practical examples.
  4. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the topic of emotions and their related vocabulary, films, and film genres.
  5. talk about emotions, describe emotions through the right adjectives, describe films, talk about film genres.
  6. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the visual arts, museums and Italy’s artistic heritage, art places, Italian visual art, renewable energy, and techniques aimed at protecting the environment.
  7. describe a painting, focus on the details of a painting.

This course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who would benefit from a review from this level.

B2.3 (50 hours)

Course Description.

Topics -unit 8: “L’Italia sostenibile” (Sustainable Italy);unit 9: “Curiosità d’Italia” (Curiositie on Italy); unit 10: “Una … centomila” (One … one hundred thousand).
Grammatical aspects-review of previous content, the concordance of tenses in the subjunctive mode, the infinitive used as a noun, the position of pronouns with the indirect modes and the imperative, the position of adjectives in a sentence (review), the different uses of the future tense; the position of the definite article in front of geographical nouns, review of the present and past gerund, the concessive gerund, some expressions with pronominal verbs, nouns having two different forms of plural, the subjunctive in comparative sentences, the subjunctive with consecutive sentences, review of the use of mica, some colloquial expressions with pronominal verbs.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. provide suggestions on environmentally sustainable techniques to be adopted in an everyday context, provide their own critical viewpoint on the topic of renewable energy and environmentally sustainable living through contextualized examples.
  2. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources devoted to trivia related to Italian geography and political history of Italy, different regional cultures, dialects, regional language differences.
  3. talk about different cultural and regional customs, recognize some linguistic differences in their regional contexts, talk about dialects and discuss their use nowadays.
  4. express their opinions on regional cultural differences, the use of dialects in a nation, express doubts and support their opinions with contextualized examples.
