Course Description.
Topics – unit 1: “Do you speak Italian?”; unit 2: “Vivere in città” (Living in the city) ; unit 3: “Made in Italy.”
Grammatical aspects – review of previous contents, the past perfect simple (trapassato prossimo), before + infinitive, the verb dovere (must) to express a hypothesis, the combined pronouns, the past conditional, the possessive pronouns, there and ne, some pronominal verbs; review of previous contents, review of the subjunctive, the past and imperfect subjunctive, provided, provided.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to language learning, about cultural differences, historical information about a city, life in the city.
- invite someone to do something together, borrow something, express doubts, make analogies, talk about cultural incidents, express one’s own opinion, agree and disagree on a topic, ask for help, complain, express hope and disagreement, forbid something, insist on something, make plans, indicate the geographical location of a place.
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources dedicated to “made in Italy” manufacturing products, the use of products and their characteristics, today’s media, and the role of social media in Italy and abroad.
The course is dedicated to those who have a knowledge of the Italian language that would allow them to access this level or those who could benefit from a review from this level.

B1.2 (25 hours)
Course Description
Topics -Unit 4: “Parole, parole, parole” (Words, words, words); Unit 5: “Invito alla lettura” (Invitation to reading); Unit 6: “La famiglia cambia faccia” (The family changes face).
Grammatical aspects -as if + subjunctive, the concordance of tenses and modes, indirect speech, the verbs to go and to come in indirect speech; the construction che io sappia (as far as I know), the concordance of tenses and modes (part II), the passive form with to be and to come, the past simple, the historical present, sebbene/nonostante/malgrado/benchè (although/notwithstanding/in spite of/though) + subjunctive, anche se (even if/although) + indicative, do + infinitive, the impersonal form of reflexive verbs.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- describe objects, products and their materials, talk about their characteristics and their use, explain causes, express emotions and feelings, justify someone’s behavior, attribute blame to something or someone, express themselves through different communication tools, give explanations, initiate a phone call, report the words of a third person, transcribe a voice message.
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to Italian literature, reading, literary genres, the concept of today’s family, birth trends of a country.
- talk about one’s favorite literary genres, favorite readings, family types in one’s country, birth trends in one’s country.
- express their opinion about their interest or lack of interest in a literary genre, the most conservative family roles, comment on statistical data, explain their point of view on a specific topic, describe the pros and cons of a condition.

Course Description.
Topics – unit 7: “Feste e regali” (Holidays and gifts); unit 8: “Gli italiani nella storia” (Italians in history).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, the adverb mica (would it be that…?), the past conditional to express a future action in the past, the hypothetical period of possibility (II type), gerund with modal and temporal function, the position of pronouns with the gerund, impersonal construction with the third person plural
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to Italian holidays and ways of celebrating Italian traditions, famous Italian characters in history, and trivia about Italian history.
- show enthusiasm or lack of enthusiasm about an event, make explicit disagreement, joke about a situation and make irony, talk about the life of a famous person, talk about a trip.
- express opinions about holidays, make suggestions, make assumptions, talk about one’s behavior in certain circumstances.

Course Description.
Topics – unit 9: “Italia da scoprire” (Italy to be discovered); unit 10: “L’italiano oggi” (Italian today).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, indirect interrogative sentences, indirect discourse with the main sentence in the past tense, prima che – prima di (before that/before), the passive form with the verb andare (to go), the subjunctive in the past tense, the hypothetical period of unreality in the past tense (III type), the past gerund, the past infinitive, after + past infinitive.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the topic of Italian regional territorial diversity, Italian regional cultural differences, the Italian language in its contemporary context, some common errors, “right” and “wrong” Italian grammar
- ask indirect questions, ask about the characteristics of a specific place, talk about the attractions of a place, discuss one’s own language errors.
- expressing one’s opinions about places of interest in Italy and abroad, interest/ lack of interest in a place, making irony, reporting what was said by someone, making assumptions in the past, reflecting on the process of learning a foreign language.
