Course Description.
Topics-unit 1: “Quanta Italia c’è in te?” (How much Italy is in you?); unit 2: “La nuova letteratura” (The new literature); unit 3: “Con la testa nel pallone” (With your head in the ball).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, some suffixes for the formation of the superlative, some prefixes to be used with verbs and adverbs, the future simple and the future anterior in negative sentences, the subjunctive in dislocated sentences, split sentences, pseudo split sentences, temporal and interrogative split sentences, the remote past tense; the concordance of tenses in the subjunctive to express anteriority, the concordance of tenses with the principal in the present conditional, regional use of verbs to be/to be.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources focusing on the social habits of Italians, their beliefs and cultural characteristics, the history of Italian literature, contemporary literature and its authors.
- talk about the social habits of Italians and compare them with those in their own country, talk about luck and misfortune, stereotypes in Italy, characteristics of Italians, literary genres from a historical and contemporary point of view, new literary trends.
- communicate about issues related to social customs in Italy, discuss literary genres, express concepts in relation to topics addressed in class, support their opinions through contextualized examples.
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources focusing on sports culture, with particular reference to the relationship between Italians and sports, regional variants of Italian, the Italian art world, art and related emotions.
- talk about sports, communicate intentions and desires, give hints to the present and past, recognize some regional variants of the Italian language, give a clear description of an event or series of events, express one’s opinions about sports and sports culture.
The course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who would benefit from a review from this level.

Course Description.
Topics -unit 4: “La grande bellezza” (The great beauty); unit 5: “Il buon mangiare” (Good eating); unit 6: “Parole in musica” (Words in music).
Grammatical aspects -having/holding, some uses of the subjunctive in independent sentences, some uses of the present and past participle, the adjective beautiful; -the simple future and the past conditional to express posteriority, the past conditional + the imperfect and past perfect subjunctive, the adjectives good and beautiful, the polyvalent than, the relative pronouns double who and how much, stylistic variants of the hypothetical period, the temporal and causal if.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- use more complex adjectives to describe a person, place, situation, express concepts, opinions, doubts, express emotions, commands, hopes, doubts, formulate hypotheses, supporting their opinions through contextualized examples.
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to regional gastronomy, high quality food and its related terminology, the experience of star chefs, music and its related vocabulary, and Italian music genres.
- understand and correctly use terminology inherent in Italian gastronomy and music, talk about high gastronomy, know how to talk about future intentions, know how to express remorse and complain about present, past and future events, talk about the world of music, music genres using the right terminology, gain knowledge of some “wrong” forms used in everyday Italian, understand the different meanings of homographic words.
- express their opinions on haute cuisine, starred restaurants, contemporary genres of music, supporting their opinions through contextualized examples.

Course Description.
Topics – unit 7: “Quanto sei figo?” (How cool are you?); unit 8: “Tutti all’Opera!” (Let’s all go to the Opera!); unit 9: “Donne d’Italia” (Women of Italy); unit 10: “L’italiano (mi) cambia” (Italian changes (me)).
Grammatical aspects – the present and past infinitive, review of the gerund mode, from and for + infinitive, the adverb even, other uses of the preposition from; the hypothetical period with the implicit hypothesis, hypothetical connectives, the pleonastic value of not, some discursive signs, idiomatic superlatives, some pronominal verbs, the imperative mode in indirect speech.
Course Objectives.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the world of fashion and its vocabulary, trends, theatrical performance, and Opera.
- communicate using terminology related to the fashion sphere and Italian slang, talk about trends, know the history of Italian Opera, talk about theatrical performance and Opera.
- express their opinions about fashion and its world, clothing and styles, share their tastes related to the world of Opera and performance, supporting their opinions through contextualized examples.
- read texts, listen to, and understand audio-visual sources devoted to the topic of women and their position in the world of work in Italy, about women’s rights, about some famous women who have made the history of Italy, how the Italian language changes in an era characterized by globalization and social media.
- analyze and understand statistics related to women’s employment in Italy, talk about how a language changes within its social and political context, talk about new idioms and Italian words.
- express their opinions on the topic of women’s employment, women’s working conditions, formulate hypotheses and make suggestions on possible ways to improve the social conditions analyzed, express their opinions on the emergence of neologisms, idiomatic expressions and the use of discursive signals, supporting their opinions with contextualized examples
