ELEMENTARY LEVEL – A1 Breakthrough

A1.1 (25 hours)

Course Description.

Topics – unit 1: “Primi contatti” (First contact); unit 2: “Io e gli altri” (Me and the others); unit 3: “Buon Appetito!” (Enjoy your meal!).
Grammatical and lexical aspects – the Italian alphabet, personal pronouns, verbs to be, to have and to call oneself, determinative and indeterminative articles, adjectives relating to nationalities, singular and plural forms of nouns, adjectives and articles, demonstrative and interrogative pronouns, cardinal numbers from 0 to 100, regular verbs with ending in -are, -ere, -ire, simple prepositions in and a.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. spell names and nouns, introduce things and introduce themselves, inquire about a person’s background and language skills, ask for personal information.
  2. communicate one’s address and phone number, talk about one’s tastes, order at restaurants and bars.

The course is for those who have no prior knowledge of Italian or those who could benefit from a review from this level.

A1.2 (25 hours)

Course Description.

Topics – unit 4: “Tempo libero” (Free time); unit 5: “In albergo” (At the hotel); unit 6: “In giro per l’Italia” (Touring Italy).
Grammatical and lexical aspects – review of previous content, the verbs go, play, read, leave, can, come, some adverbs of frequency, some simple prepositions, I like and its plural form, cardinal numbers starting from 100, the concordance between nouns and adjectives, there is/there are, ask the time.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources dealing with leisure time, book a hotel room, give information on how to get to a place.
  2. talk about leisure, personal likes and dislikes, describe places, describe an apartment, describe a place and give directions on how to get there.

The course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who would benefitfrom a review starting from this level.

A1.3 (25 hours)

Course Description.

Topics – unit 7: “Andiamo in vacanza!” (Let’s go on vacation!); unit 8: “Sapori d’Italia” (Flavors of Italy).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, the near past, the regular and irregular past participle, the absolute superlative, some, the double negative, quantities, the partitive, the impersonal construction with si + verb in the third person.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources that have events that occurred in the past as their theme, vacations, grocery shopping, typical products, recipes.
  2. talk about past events, communicate about topics related to vacations, his own shopping and eating habits, describe a store, share recipes.

The course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who would benefit from a review from this level.

Course Description.

Topics – unit 9: “Vita quotidiana” (Day to day life); unit 10: “La famiglia” (Family).
Grammatical aspects – review of previous content, reflexive verbs, some frequency verbs, idioms introduced by the verb do, possessive adjectives and articles with possessive adjectives, the relative superlative, the past perfect of reflexive verbs.

Course Objectives.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. read texts, listen to and understand audio-visual sources devoted to an individual’s habits, daily life, and Italian holidays.
  2. communicate about events in daily life, describe holidays and social events, describe and talk about one’s family, describe photographs.

This course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian that would allow them to access this level or those who would benefit from a review from this level.
