“The viola is an instrument with a temper”
Luciano Berio
The Italian Cultural Institute presents a concert featuring artists Clara Belladone (viola) and Maurilio Cacciatore (live electronic music).
An instrument with a temper, and extreme even in its melancholy; a distinctive voice, like the melodic themes of the silicon repertoire.
In the works of the greatest Italian composers of contemporary music, the viola — an alien instrument by nature, controversial not by choice — bursts into a new exploration of sound and technique, finding in electroacoustic music a powerful interlocutor and companion.
Programme
- Luciano Berio, Sequenza VI for viola (1967, 12’)
- Maurilio Cacciatore, Breve III (Short Piece III), for viola (2020, 5’)
- Marco Betta, In ombra d’amore (In the Shadow of Love) (1988, 10’)
- Maurilio Cacciatore, Lettera a una mamma tedesca (Letter to a German mother) (2022, 7’30”), viola and live electronics
- Nicola Sani, Non tutte le isole hanno attorno il mare (Not all islands are surrounded by the sea) (1998, 20’), viola and electronics
