On the occasion of the 10th Beirut Art Film Festival – BAFF, and as part of the section dedicated to Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to announce the screening of the documentary film Green over Gray: Emilio Ambasz. (Italy, 2023, 56 minutes), directed by Francesca Molteni & Mattia Colombo, original version with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Francesca Molteni, in English and via Zoom. George Arbid, architect and director of the Arab Center for Architecture, will ask her some questions about the film.

Directed by Francesca Molteni and Mattia Colombo, Green Over Gray offers an excursion through the life and work of Argentine architect and designer Emilio Ambasz (born in Resistencia, 1943). Although he was influential in all the fields he touched, Ambasz is now recognized as an early advocate of green architecture and an ecological approach to architecture, as well as a true pioneer in the climate impact debate. The documentary explores the green architecture revolution through his groundbreaking projects and offers an in-depth analysis of them, shedding light on four buildings he designed from the 1970s to the 2000s (one for each decade): the Casa de Retiro Espiritual, built in 1975; the Lucille Halsell Conservatory of the San Antonio Botanical Garden, built in 1982; the 1990 ACROS building; and the 2008 Angel Hospital. The film illustrates how, over forty years, Ambasz helped redefine the relationship between humans and the environment, predicting a vision of nature as the pivot of historic change. Through exclusive interviews with famous names such as Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma and others, the documentary emphasizes the importance of an emotionally resonant architecture capable of improving daily life and addressing urban and climate challenges.
