In the lush city of Catania, Sicily, Antonio (Marcello Mastroianni) is regarded as the ultimate lover of women, a title he holds dear. Yet not long after marrying the beautiful Barbara (Claudia Cardinale), Antonio’s new obligations begin to weigh on him, and soon he is faltering in the bedroom. In short order, his impotence is the talk of the town, and Antonio is a laughingstock. As he tries to repair the damage to his marriage, Barbara considers her options for leaving.
