Perugino. Eternal Renaissance, directed by Giovanni Piscaglia, is a docufilm on the life and work of Pietro di Cristoforo Vannucci, known to all as Il Perugino, who trained between two different but at the same time similar worlds, that is, on the one hand, architecture and the fundamental influence of Piero della Francesca, and on the other hand, the painting of the religious subject and the years of training in the studio of Il Verrocchio, where he had Leonardo as a colleague and Raphael as a pupil. However, Perugino will paradoxically become famous for having been the pupil of Piero della Francesca and the teacher of Raphael himself, both of which names will impose themselves forcefully in the history of art.

In the documentary, historians and experts will highlight his peculiarities, as well as his fundamental role in the history of the Renaissance, with a journey through Italy to discover his great masterpieces, from the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel to the rooms dedicated to him in the National Gallery of Umbria.

Harmony and Beauty. These are the two words with which the narrator Marco Bocci ends the documentary. The director Giovanni Piscaglia narrates the long life of the Umbrian painter with the right balance to accompany and analyze his dense and, indeed, harmonious artistic production. Perugino was in fact the artist of balance and contemporary storytelling, based on the color and the perfection of his subjects’ gaze as well as on the natural and enveloping landscapes.

Never dramatic, extremist or biased, an anti-political and shy man, Perugino painted until his last breath like a talented professional and an entrepreneur in tune with his times.
