Shortly after breaking up a love affair, Vittoria starts a new affair with a young stockbroker, Piero. The dates between the two follow one another, providing the girl with fleeting breaks from the boredom of a monotonous life. When a drunkard steals Piero's car and accidentally dies, Vittoria starts to acknowledge the cynical behaviour of the young prosecutor, who only cares about the damaged car body. After one of their usual meetings, Vittoria receives an invitation from Piero for a further appointment, to which neither of them will go because in them, and especially in Vittoria, a bitter certainty is growing: that of the invincible loneliness of men.
