The Italian Cultural Institute of Beirut organizes at the MIS-Modern International School of Iaat (Bekaa Valley) the interactive exhibition “Pimpa Travels in Italy dedicated to the famous little dog created by cartoonist Altan. The initiative is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and curated by Franco Cosimo Panini Editore.

The exhibition consists of 13 illustrated and interactive panels designed especially for children. Through games, quizzes, and educational activities, children will explore the beauty and excellence of Italy: from nature to sports, from cuisine to design, and even Italy’s role in space research.

During the event, a puppet show will be presented, featuring two performers – a puppeteer with a Pimpa puppet and a host – who will interact with the young audience, introducing them to Italy through a fun and engaging dialogue.

Morover, a few copies of the book of the same name will be offered, an illustrated, hardcover book designed for preschool children. With a simple style and colorful, engaging illustrations, Pimpa takes young readers on a journey through Italy’s artistic, historical, natural, and culinary heritage, meeting iconic figures such as Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, the Mona Lisa, and Aida. The book has been published in twelve languages, including Arabic.

“Pimpa Travels in Italy” is a special opportunity to promote Italian culture around the world, combining creativity, inclusion, and fun.

Who is Pimpa?

Created in 1975 by Altan, Pimpa is one of the most beloved characters in Italian children’s publishing. A symbol of discovery, imagination, and freedom, the cheerful little dog has starred in countless adventures through comics, books, and TV series.

Francesco Tullio-Altan, a well-known Italian cartoonist, illustrator, and satirical author, is the creator of the red-spotted dog. Pimpa was born playfully while Altan was drawing for his daughter. When she asked for a puppy, he picked up a pencil and drew Pimpa.
