Screening of the movie “Dante” by Pupi Avati

Locandina Dante

The Italian Embassy in Lebanon and the Italian Cultural Institute in Beirut will screen the film “Dante” by Pupi Avati (2021 – 90 min.) on December 12th, 2023 at 8 p.m. at the Caracalla Theater.

The initiative was created to promote the image of Dante in the world, given the undisputed relevance of the Supreme Poet’s work and life.

Indeed Dante Alighieri, unanimously recognized as the father of the Italian language, is one of the figures who has most influenced the history and culture of Italy, the European continent and the entire Western world.

The film narrates the Poet’s story through the words of Boccaccio, who in 1350 embarks on a journey to find Dante’s daughter. Along the way, Boccaccio retraces the salient episodes of the Poet’s life, from his meeting with Beatrice to his friendship with Guido Cavalcanti, from the wars between Whites and Blacks to his entry into politics as prior to his “endless exile.” Woven into the plot, the characters of the Divine Comedy, from Paolo and Francesca to Count Ugolino, emerge in the form of tales collected by Dante along his wanderings. A journey that spans time, between present and past, and together with the deep humanity of the protagonists gives the viewer a splendid gallery of villages, castles, churches and frescoes of central Italy.

Access to the event is by personal invitation only.
