The Italian Cultural Institute participates to the international and interdisciplinary conference City Street2, organized by the Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design (FAAD) at the Notre Dame University, Louaize on 9-11 November 2016. This conference is an opportunity for exchange, and exposure to issues facing streets worldwide. As part of this conference, Prof. Paola Somma has been invited to address the conference delegates as a keynote speaker. Prof. Somma is an independent consultant active in scholarly work, as well as an architect and a planner. A former Professor of urban planning and design at the University of Venice, Italy (1980-2000), she has also been a visiting professor at the American University of Beirut (1998-1999). She is a member of the Board of Editors of the Journal Open House International.

‘At a moment when private investment have taken control of what was left of our public space in streets and entire parts of cities across the globe, the notion itself of street as public realm is under attack. The City Street2 conference offers a much needed and timely opportunity for an operative reflection on the role urban designers and professionals of the built environment have in this process.’ Paola Somma
