ITALIAN DESIGN DAY

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Prof. Carlo Forcolini will not intervene at the Italian Design Day. However, the Design Triennale of Milano, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has appointed the Arch. Matteo Origoni, from Origoni Steiner Associates Architects, as a testimonial of Italian design in Beirut. Origoni Steiner is the winner of numerous national and international prizes and two honorable mentions at the prestigious ADI Golden Compass Award.
Arch. Origoni, a Museography Design professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, will give a conference at USEK (14: 30/16: 30) on the theme “Design as Storytelling”, in which he will focus on museography and exhibition design. In the evening, he will talk about his experience in the field of lighting design to the Lebanese public at the Debbas Gallery (18: 00/20: 00).

—————-

On the 1st Italian Design Day, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, The Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the Saint Esprit University of Kaslik, the Italian Trade Commission and the Cesar Debbas & Fils, organize two conferences of Prof. Carlo Forcolini, Scientific Director of Raffles Milano.

– Understanding Italian Design – USEK – Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts – Jean El Hawa Auditorium – 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

– Carlo Forcolini, A designer between dream and reality – Debbas Showroom – Corniche du Fleuve – 6 pm to 8 pm

On the same day, in 100 locations around the world, 100 “ambassadors” of Italian culture (designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, critics, communicators, teachers…) will illustrate the concept of excellence. A Committee set up by the Ministry in cooperation with Triennale Design Museum, has selected for Beirut the Italian Designer Carlo Forcolini, former vice-president of the European Design Institute and currently Scientific Director of RAFFLES Milano. During his prolific career, Forcolini has created many items of furniture and lighting. As soon as he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, he started a collaboration with the Castiglioni brothers at first, and then, for 15 years, with Vico Magistretti, one of the masters of Italian design. A designer and an entrepreneur, he founded Alias and Nemo and designed for Artemide, Cassina, De Padova, Pomellato, Zumtobel and many others. He was the National President of ADI, the historical association representing the Italian design system: manufacturers, designers, journalists, critics, and distributors.
Carlo Forcolini will give a lecture on “Understanding Italian Design” at the Jean El Hawa Auditorium of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in the early afternoon (2:30 pm to 4:30 pm). He will then meet with the Lebanese public in the late afternoon (6 pm to 8 pm) in the Artemide space (for which he created some lighting pieces) at the Debbas Showroom, to share during an informal talk some thoughts about design, drawn from his own experience (“Carlo Forcolini, a designer between dream and reality”).
