The Italian Cultural Institute participates in the 2nd edition of the Byblos International Film Festival with the film Primavera by Damiano Michieletto.

The Byblos International Film Festival (BIFF) was founded by professionals from the fields of cinema, tourism, and culture with the aim of establishing Byblos as a leading destination for cinema and creativity. Set in one of the oldest cities in the world, the festival celebrates the seventh art through a curated selection of local and international films, while fostering cultural exchange.

SYNOPSIS

Primavera – Directed by Damiano Michieletto – Italy, 2025

Early 18th century. The Ospedale della Pietà is the largest orphanage in Venice, but also an institution that trains its most gifted girls in music. Its orchestra is among the most renowned in the world.

Cecilia is twenty years old and has lived all her life at the Pietà. She is an extraordinary violinist. Art has opened her mind, but not the doors of the orphanage; she can only perform within its walls, behind a grate, for wealthy patrons.

Everything changes with the arrival of a new violin teacher: Antonio Vivaldi, whose presence will unexpectedly transform her life.

Presented in 2025 across a prestigious international festival circuit, Primavera by Damiano Michieletto was selected in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and among the Festival Favorites at the Red Sea International Film Festival. The film was also featured in the Spotlight – Audience Award selection at the Chicago International Film Festival, in competition at the Rencontres du cinéma italien à Toulouse, and in the Hors-compétition section of the Villerupt Italian Film Festival, confirming strong international critical recognition.
