8° BAFF | “PASOLINI 100” IN BEIRUT | FILM “MEDEA”

Screening of the film “Medea” by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1969 – 118′- OV / subtitled in French).

Introduction to the film by Hala Habache, curator of Pasolini Centennial (in French).

The film will be followed by a 60-minute lecture entitled “Medea: from the archaic tale to the cinema“, given by Dr. May el Koussa (in French).

Medea, daughter of the King of Colchis, meets Jason, an Argonaut who has come to kidnap the Golden Fleece. This sacred totem is the idol of the people of Colchis, a barbarous and savage people. Medea, who has fallen madly in love with Jason, does not hesitate to betray her family for him. However, ten years later, it will be Jason to betray Medea…

Inspired by the myth of Medea, especially Euripides’ version, Medea is an almost anthropological rewriting of the classic tragedy. The film marks a major step in the relationship to antiquity in Pasolini’s filmography
