The IIC participates in the second phase of the "Doors. Please touch" project, promoted by the Red Oak Association in collaboration with the "Omero" National Tactile Museum of Ancona in Italy.
Launched in 2018 in collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Culture, the Italian Cultural Institute, the “Omero” Tactile Museum of Ancona, the National Museum of Beirut, the Sursock Museum and the MACAM Museum, the project has opened the doors of museums to non-sighted and visually impaired persons, a first of its kind in Lebanon and the region.
After the success of the first phase, the second one envisages a cycle of activities that will take place over three days. The program aims to extend the museums accessibility to deaf and hard of hearing people through the creation of an App that includes a video in sign language. It also envisions numerous training activities and tactile guided tours for blind, visually impaired and deaf people at the National Museum of Beirut and MACAM, in collaboration with special schools and various NGOs.
Andrea Socrati, from the "Omero" Tactile Museum in Ancona, will also hold a 3-day training workshop including a training course for Red Oak staff on the activity of tactile books, a training course on accessibility for school teachers and a workshop on tactile activities for a group of children and young people at MACAM.
