«REQUIEM» BY CHERUBINI

CONCERT IN FAVOR OF THE LEBANON MUSIC CONSERVATORY

Concert organized by the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Lebanon, the choirs of the Antonine University and the University of Notre Dame of Louaizé, directed by Maestro Toufic Maatouk, will inaugurate the musical season of the Conservatory with Cherubini's "Requiem". Composed in 1816 and played on January 21st, 1817 to commemorate the 24th anniversary of Louis XVI’s beheading, it was much admired by Schumann, Brahms and Beethoven, and was played at the latter's funeral, at his request.

The concert will also be an opportunity to support the National Conservatory, which has 350 teachers and around 6000 students all across Lebanon. The institution has suffered a lot and continues to suffer, particularly since the beginning of the economic crisis and last August 4th explosion at Beirut’s Port. The Conservatory lacks of means, infrastructures and musical instruments and it is increasingly difficult to raise awareness among parents, part of which no longer have the means to send their children to school. The Orchestra gives approximately 35 free concerts a year and deserves to be helped and valued, as it is a beautiful showcase for the country. For those interested in supporting the Conservatory, donations can be made here.

The concert is aired live on Téléliban, MTV and on the social channels of the Conservatory. It is possible to attend in person upon obtaining a free ticket here.
