Futurism to Abstraction: Italian Art from 1909 to 2018 with Alessandro Masi

Join us for a talk on the pioneers of modern art beginning with the Belle Époque to today as presented by historian and art critic Alessandro Masi.
Masi will delve into the history of Italian art beginning with the first abstract paintings of futurists Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Luigi Russolo, Gino Severini, and Carlo Carrà until the end of the First World War (1915-1918). Masi will present on each decade.
This talk is programmed in parallel to the exhibition Classic Reloaded. Mediteranea.

Alessandro Masi (b. 1960 in Rome) is an art historian and General Secretary of the Dante Alighieri Society. His studies focused on twentieth-century Italian art with particular attention to avant-garde art in relation to politics. He has written many books including Zig Zag. The Futurist Novel (1995). He is a professor at the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University for Foreigners “Dante Alighieri” of Reggio Calabria, and he was appointed Commander of the Italian Republic in 2003.
